Waratahs Players Gain Key Financial Insights at Money Matters Day

NSW Waratahs Player Development Manager, Charlotte Anneveld, recently hosted a Money Matters education day, providing players with the opportunity to enhance their financial knowledge and plan for life beyond the rugby field. The initiative is part of RUPA's ongoing commitment to supporting the holistic development of players, ensuring they have the tools to make informed financial decisions throughout their careers and beyond.

The day featured four targeted workshops, each delivered by leading industry professionals covering Mortgages, Superannuation, Investments, and Tax.

RUPA

Mortgages – Bank of Queensland James Sheffield and John Horosko from Bank of Queensland guided players through the process of entering the property market, including understanding repayments, interest rates, and structuring loans effectively. The session offered practical advice for players considering property investment during or after their playing careers.

Superannuation – Ord Minnett Caleb Millin and Nick Pride from Ord Minnett provided an in-depth overview of superannuation, explaining how contributions work, strategies to maximise retirement savings, and the benefits of early financial planning. Players were encouraged to consider long-term planning as a key component of their financial wellbeing.

Investments – Sentinel Wealth Greg Hooper from Sentinel Wealth led a session on wealth creation and investment strategies. Players were introduced to different investment options, the importance of diversification, and techniques for managing risk while building long-term financial security.

Tax – BDO Mitchell Tieck from RUPA's partner, BDO, offered guidance on tax planning specifically tailored to professional athletes. Topics included compliance requirements, deductions, and strategies to optimise returns, helping players understand how to manage their finances efficiently throughout their careers.

BDO

By providing access to expert advice and practical financial guidance, the club aims to equip players with the confidence and knowledge to navigate complex financial decisions, secure their futures, and transition successfully into life after rugby.

A sincere thank you to our presenting partners, Bank of Queensland, Ord Minnett, Sentinel Wealth, and BDO for their time, expertise, and commitment to player development.
