2025 Buildcorp Rugby Player Induction Camp – Day 3
The final day of the induction camp brought the group back to Potts Point for a morning dedicated to healthy mindset planning and applying these essential skills for long-term success in professional rugby both on and off the field.
The day began with an in-depth session on understanding the role of player agents and navigating professional contracts, delivered by RUPA General Manager of Player Services, Alex Grygiel. Designed to provide clarity on the the agent–athlete relationship, the workshop gave players practical insight into what they should expect from an agent, what their rights and responsibilities are, and how to approach professional discussions with confidence. This session empowered players to make informed decisions throughout their careers and to build strong, transparent support networks around them.
Players were then introduced to Paul Lyons from Everything Mental Toughness, a long-standing RUPA partner. Paul guided the group through the foundations of mental toughness and unpacking what it is, what it isn’t, and how athletes can develop resilience that consistently supports their performance. Players completed the 4C’s psychometric assessment, measuring control, confidence, commitment and challenge. This exercise encouraged deeper reflection on how they respond to pressure, manage their thoughts, and understand the internal processes that influence their performance. The session offered players a valuable set of mental tools to help them excel in high-performance environments.
Next, Wallaroos Player Development Manager David King led a practical goal-setting workshop, where players built a personalised four-week WOOP plan to guide them through to Christmas. The activity helped players set meaningful short-term goals, identify potential obstacles, and map out the actions needed to stay accountable and consistent.
Following morning tea, the PDMs delivered a small group interactive session on Time Management & Life Balance, helping players understand how to structure their routines around team commitments. The group explored what a “great week” looks like, how to balance competing priorities, and how to create habits that support both performance and wellbeing.
The camp concluded with a final team challenge and a presentation of awards generously provided by former Waratah Jack Grant’s clothing company, Motorino. Players completed feedback surveys before coming together for a closing lunch, which included parting words of guidance and support from RUPA CEO, Justin Harrison. In the wrap-up session, players reflected on how the camp had addressed the early career challenges they had nominated on the first day of camp, and areas to work on with their PDM going forward.
Across all three days, the camp offered the 23 new professionals a well-rounded introduction to life in elite rugby, blending performance, wellbeing, integrity, financial education and personal development. Each player left with greater clarity, confidence and the support needed to begin their professional journey with purpose.
Special thanks to Buildcorp for the continued partnership and providing players with a meaningful opportunity to become better people, better players and live better lives.
