The Rugby Union Players’ Association is pleased to welcome our newest commercial partner, FIAFitnation, who have committed to providing significant scholarship opportunities for RUPA members as part of the partnership, signed until the end of 2020.
Current Australian Super Rugby and Super W players, Men’s and Women’s Rugby Sevens players, Western Force players and all former professional players, will be eligible to apply for full scholarships into FIAFitnation’s Certificate III and Certificate IV in Fitness. Furthermore, RUPA members will benefit from a discount on these courses.
The agreement will see FIAFitnation take pride of place among RUPA’s current suite of partners as Official Fitness Education Partner, providing additional learning opportunities alongside RUPA Education Partner Open Universities Australia as key parts of RUPA’s Player Development Program.
FIAFitnation present courses in campus mode (Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne) or completely online, and can also organise for a trainer to work with a group of players at their Club if it best fits in around their schedule. Importantly, they have years of experience as a partner of both the Victorian and New South Wales Institute of Sport and understand the challenging study and career transition environments of professional athletes.
RUPA Chief Executive Justin Harrison said that the partnership with FIAFitnation would be a real boost for Australia’s Rugby players.
“Every partnership RUPA enters into is designed to directly benefit players and our Rugby ecosystem, with a view to preparing our members for career transition. Partnering with FIAFitnation allows us to join the timeline of athletic performance with career development,” Harrison said.
“The inclusive nature of the scholarship offerings, with more than 1200 current and former players eligible to apply, allows us to work with both current and the RUPA Players’ Alumni to provide opportunities across our rugby membership. RUPA will continue to work with FIAFitnation to support successful applicants throughout their study and career transition paths.”
“FIA Fitnation has a long history of providing education opportunities to elite athletes, and are excited to extend this offering to RUPA,” Ewan Birnie, National Vocational Education and Training Manager at FIAFitnation, said.
“We recognise the demands of pursuing a career in professional sport, aiming to create flexible learning opportunities that provide meaningful outcomes for athletes, allowing them to build a career outside of their sport.”
